Here at Dakota Duns Quarter Horses, we mainly sell our annual production of foals as weanlings, but we do on occasion have other horses available. You will find them here on this page. As with any sale, vet checks are recommended and can be arranged at the buyer's expense. If the horse purchased is leaving the state of South Dakota, the buyer will also need to cover the expense of a coggins test and a health certificate. "Piper" is a beauty and I'm proud to have her bloodlines in our program, but we are going to downsize majorly to focus on our foundation horses. The kids have moved on and there's too many horses for just my husband and I to care for. Piper had her first foal in 2024, a filly that we will retain for now. (She is pictured).
Piper is broke to ride, but she is honestly very sour under saddle. We have not had her vetted or had any chiropractic work done on her, so I do not know if there's an issue with underlying pain that could be causing this? She has been through several trainers, is extremely smart, but very hot and catty! We bought her to use as a broodmare and that's all that she has done for us over the past 2.5 years. We chose to AI her to REF Black Mamba because of the quieter disposition of the reining horses. Piper is hard to catch until she is cornered, then she gives up. She has wicked cutting moves and will dodge you if she can. She is not mean, very gentle to handle once you get her. Someone has put a lot of time into her in the past and it shows.

Ziggy has been a part of our program for several years and has produced some stellar foals for us! She always passes on her quiet temperament, good conformation and her gorgeous typey head! She currently has a 2025 red dun filly sired by Genuine Silvernic at her side that we will be keeping as a replacement. She is an older mare, and her filly this year has pulled her down some. We do not grain or horses, because of our large numbers, so when they can longer tolerate the South Dakota life, we like to offer them to a smaller program that is better capable of making sure that they get what they need in their senior years. I have no doubt that Ziggy will produce another foal or two if you wish to rebreed her in 2026 with the proper nutrition to keep an older mare producing. She is in good flesh, not thin, but her body is showing her age. Ziggy is very easy to catch in a large pasture, easy to handle, very sweet, will stand for doctoring without a halter. She does have some proud flesh on her rear cannon from a wire cut that she sustained in 2024. It was just superficial but in a bad spot for healing. She is not lame. The only con about Ziggy is that she isn't very good for trimming. I bought her in 2018 and her feet were completely unkept and a disaster. Her past owner said that she will not trim, but we have managed to get her done when needed. Her feet are in good shape now. This is a wonderful opportunity to get a nice, gentle broodmare and a gorgeous foal to raise next summer!! Her foal will be guaranteed ApHC papers. The stallion breeding report has been filed.

I hate to add her to our "available" list, but I don't have enough of her bloodlines around to reasonably keep her in our band. She is a great mare to have around, a good mom, foals out on pasture unassisted, and right in the middle as far as pecking order within the herd. She doesn't do drama and sticks to her favorites. Baily hasn't been handled a whole lot. She is halter broke, leads, and loads, but hasn't been trimmed since she was a 2 yr old. She has great, strong feet that naturally wear. Her foals are inquisitive, quiet, friendly, very sweet once they bond to their person, and very trainable! She is a big-bodied mare and adds some height to our heavy bred foundation herd. She is a wonderful mare to produce out-crosses with! She is conformationally correct in all ways with a very nice stride. Her 2025 colt will be a full sibling to the one that she is carrying now. He is a beauty!! This is the type of mare that will be a cornerstone of your breeding program!

This was a result of pasture breeding without supplements or estromate needed. Lena is a sweet mare, begs you to catch her so she can be loved on. She literally loves everyone! She is very well-mannered, good for the farrier, loads like a dream, stands to be groomed. Her only vice that I have witnessed is that she is terrified of stocks! She has jumped over them twice even with sedation, so any and all procedures need to be performed without them! She has always appeared sound, but has come up sore this past week. She most likely bruised herself when we moved them to fall grazing ground. PPE's are welcomed.

Another one that is hard to let go of, but we are trying to simplify our program and letting some of these smaller-framed, reining bred prospects go to a program that is more suited for them. This filly is quiet, kind, has been handled, but not a whole lot. She is still pretty easy going if you start out slow with her. She is a lover! I had planned to AI her to our stallion Dun It Parr last summer, but we just had too many mares to get done on a tight timeline, so she was just left another year to grow. She appears sound but does have a thin crack down the front of her left foot. It will grow out without issues if trimmed on a regular schedule. She actually has very beautiful, strong feet!
