WELCOME TO DAKOTA DUNS QUARTER HORSES!
"Dana is absolutely amazing and cares a lot about her babies! She tries her best to match horse and owner with what the owners goals are. My filly by This Dudes Bad, picks things up very quickly and was exactly as described. She gets compliments by everyone who sees her as well. She's a total love bug and runs right up to me and the barn managers who complimented her amazing pasture manners. If you want an amazing show horse or an amazing ranch horse, I highly recommend Dakota Duns!" ~ Samantha
Dakota Duns Quarter Horses is operated by the family owned Hoffman Ranch in Bowdle, SD. We are dedicated AQHA breeders, raising top quality ranch, family, & performance bred horses built for a long day's rugged work as well as genetically tested breeding stock. We are particularly fond of primitive markings and our herd sires are homozygous for the "DUN" gene, (dun is believed to be the ancestral or wild type color of horses). We offer registered, AQHA weanlings and yearlings annually as well as WORLD-WIDE SHIPPING. Book a trip to visit our ranch and our beautiful horses or maybe book a guided pheasant hunt on our family cropland while you are in the area. Lodging is available for our guests that are laying over for a night or two and visitors are always welcome! Planning a family trip to check out the beautiful state of South Dakota? We are four hours NE of Mt. Rushmore, Sturgis, and Deadwood, SD.
"Man! Joker's rocking chair trot and low headset are natural to her. This has not been trained into her. It's simply genetics and conformation. Dakota Duns Quarter Horses wished I had 10 more just like her!" ~ Phoenix Jade
"We couldn’t be happier with our horses we bought from Dana at Dakota Duns. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful with very high quality horses. Round up and loaded on Thanksgiving Day, along with a tour of the farm." ~ Leslie
We'd like to tell you about what kind of baby that you are going to get when you purchase a Dakota Dun Quarter Horse. Our breeding herd is raised in a very natural environment. Under close supervision, we let our mares foal in pasture with their family; broodmares and foals as well as a stallion. It's there that they will remain until they are weaned going into winter. These foals live on big pasture and they learn how to travel rough land. You'll have a horse who watches his feet for the rest of his life. They are exposed to all weather, ATV's, dogs, wild life, natural obstacles, and people of course! We spend most of our waking hours on the land observing, visiting, and caring for our horses, our friends! They have confident minds and a natural curiosity that makes training them a lot easier! You're baby will be started with halter training shortly after weaning. Just the basics: Haltering, leading, tying, the rest is up to you. You'll have a horse that is a clean slate, RESPECTFUL, and ready to learn! No bad habits to break! This way may not be for every breeder or buyer, but this is the way that we believe in as a family, because we see the success in the foals that we have been raising for the past 12 years. That success also belongs to the great buyers that we have been honored to work with over the years!
"Super pleased with my beautiful filly. Took to the saddle and had novices ride her with only 45 rides, not to mention she's the best looking horse around. Thanks for working with me, too!" ~ Steve
We currently stand 3 breeding stallions on our ranch. You can view them using our top menu on this website. The available foals sired by these stallions will be listed on their own page. Visit our "Contact/Forms" page and sign up for email notifications while you are here! Always be in the loop!!
