Here at Dakota Duns Quarter Horses, we mainly sell our annual production of foals as weanlings, but we do on occasion have other horses available. You will find them here on this page. As with any sale, vet checks are recommended and can be arranged at the buyer's expense. If the horse purchased is leaving the state of South Dakota, the buyer will also need to cover the expense of a coggins test and a health certificate. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact us!

Don't forget to check out our foal pages for additional horses available!

WS Jazs Silver Lena
$6500

2008 AQHA homozygous BLACK grulla mare (EE, aa, D/nd2, 6-panel n/n)
Check out this girl's pedigree! All foundation on top with 4 crosses back to POCO BUENO and the great performance sire DOC OLENA on the bottom side! This mare crosses great on different disciplines! I was attracted to the JAZ breeding when I bought her, then I realized what a great cross she would be on my Hollywood Dun It's as well. She has never been broke to ride that I know of, but she is easy to handle, easy to work with, easy to catch as long as she doesn't buddy up with a sour horse. She is towards the bottom of the pecking order here, but that may be because she is newer to our herd. She loads, trims, leads and ties without any issues as well. She was bought out west in Wyoming and has wintered well with us here in South Dakota. No supplements needed besides mineral.
She is currently out in the breeding pasture with COOL DRIFTIN JAZ for a 2023 grulla foal, guaranteed to be homozygous black and very possibly dun. Foal will be 6-panel n/n via parentage.

Rio Dignified
$ 5500

BRED BROODMARE
2012 AQHA grulla roan mare
4-panel n/n, n/Hypp
Color tested Ee, aa, D/nd1, rnRN
15.3 hands
"Rio" has been a fantastic broodmare for us! She has had 5 grulla/grulla roan babies for us to date. Her 2021 grulla colt has tested homozygous for both black and dun sired by This Dudes Bad. Rio was never broke to ride, but is sound to my knowledge. However, I think that it's best just to let her be a mama as she gets stressed out when taken from her herd. She's an easy foaler, does it all on her own.
She is halter broke, but she is a very nervous mare. She is about impossible to trim. She has run with a large broodmare band most of her life and that's all that she really knows, and she is happy in her comfort zone. Her foals have been extremely smart, sweet and easy to train once weaned.
Rio is available bred back to This Dudes Bad.

MS Ashwood Peppy
$ 6500

AQHA Palomino Dun mare AVAILABLE!
~ MS ASHWOOD PEPPY
~ Color tested ee, Aa, D/nd2
~ 5-Panel n/n
2012 AQHA registered mare. Green broke to ride, but has been a broodmare for the past 5 years. 100% sound to my knowledge if you want to ride her. PPE's are always welcomed and encouraged! Our daughter raised her from a yearling, broke her out, rode her in the Black Hills, the Badlands, and Custer State Park. Very easy going and kind. Wouldn't take much to get her going again. No buck or rear or funny business! Good, hard, black feet; goes barefoot!
She is open this year due to no fault of her own. She is bred to This Dudes Bad for a 2023 foal. Easy breeder, foals out herself, good milker, stays fat on grass and hay. This mare has produced some of our favorite foals over the years! They are stunning!

2020 AQHA, APHA dunskin splashed white stallion. "Rip" is available for purchase at this time. We had kept him back as a replacement for his sire, This Dudes Bad. He is also 7-panel negative for all genetic diseases. Rip is halter broke, trims, and loads. Dog-gentle and in your pocket. Easy to catch and work with.

Blues Main Squeeze
$ 6500

2012 AQHA 15 hand smoky blue roan mare (Ee, aa, nRn, nCr, 5-panel tested n/n) not tested for IMM
Chloe available to some lucky buyer looking for a true and steady mare that always delivers the best of the best! I have kept most of her daughters.
Chloe has never been broke to ride or started in anyway. She has always been a broodmare. She is an easy breeder and a perfect mom! She raises a hell of a nice foal! They're easy to work with. kind, and damn pretty! She has only ever been pasture bred and has never missed a year since 2016. Chloe stays fat on grass hay, no supplements besides loose mineral have ever been offered to her. She is made for South Dakota and can handle all weather that the prairie can unpredictably throw at us! She foals out at pasture without any issues and is very attentive to her foals, however, she is not a mean mare and will let you around them if needed. She has only been trimmed a handful of times and has been pretty good with it. She loads and ties without issue. She is used to roaming about free on very large pastures, so catching her in the open is NOT going to happen!
Chloe is currently getting bred back to Kros Casino Cash for a 2023 foal. Cash stands at 16 hands, is homozygous for black and also splashed white 1. He is 7-panel n/n.

CL Rushs Lil Lady
$ 2000

~ Aged broodmare available
CL RUSHS LIL LADY
2001 AQHA black broodmare
~ Granddaughter of Peppy San Badger and Lucky Joe Lynx
~ Not color or panel tested. Always has been bred to homozygous black stallions.
2001 AQHA registered black broodmare sired by Little Rush, son of Peppy San Badger. We bought Katie in 2019 and we were able to get her successfully bred that year. She gave us a gorgeous grulla filly in 2020. She dropped a lot of weight that summer and I didn't think that she would make the winter. It has taken us two years now to get her back to a fat broody. She is available at a very low price to some one that wants to give her a try or collect some eggs. I do believe that she will pasture breed this year and my plan is to put her out there.
I do not have to sell this mare, so her price is firm! I let my ladies retire here, but I am going to keep putting her out in the breeding pastures as it's hard to find nice black mares bred like this! If you have the facilities available or a pasture breeding set-up, I think that you could get another foal or two out of her.

One Iced Bullet
$ 7500

2020 APHA daughter of Gunner On Ice. "Julia" is a sorrel splashed white filly with one blue eye and a very pretty bald face. We purchased her earlier in the year from her breeder with the intentions of adding her to our broodmare band. However, we are making some changes to our program and narrowing down our APHA mare numbers. This young filly is 100% sound to our knowledge and ready to start ground work this fall. She is halter broke, trims and loads. She is 6-panel negative, but not tested for IMM.

Ashwood Double Pine
$ 7500 ~ sold

BRED BROODMARE
2013 APHA classic champagne mare, exposed to our AQHA stallion, KROS CASINO CASH, for a May 2022 foal. This foal will be either black or classic champagne, with the possibility of splashed white. This is an exciting, first cross for the pair! Should be a stunning baby!
This mare is broke to ride, but very green. She doesn't know much, but has traveled to the Black Hills of South Dakota, to Custer State Park, and to the Bad Lands. She has sat for a year, but is as good and sweet as cake, very kind and gentle, so she most likely go off like she hasn't missed a day. She has a 2021 filly at her side, so she will be available for travel after October 1st.
*Color Genetics Ee, aa, nCh, ?/w20
*Panel clean for all 7 genetic diseases
